My son has been diagnosed with multiple mental health disorders; stress and lack of structure are triggers. My son has been bullied and suspended many times because his bully will tease and want to fight; then, if my son retaliates, he’s punished every time; if he goes to a teacher, nothing is done, and seeking justice is big for him. If you keep teaching a child that one child’s needs are more important than their own, their anxiety will get higher, their stress will get worse, and therefore everyone is in a worse spot. Teachers don’t realize how little words, facial expressions, or “gossiping ” affect kids; kids can hear, and children will talk. Our children battle hard every day to just walk out the door and go to school – add on their disabilities and pressure to be perfect, and their fight with their mind to hang on through the day, just to see every adult placing judgment on them, and we’re doomed. I get called every day, and all I get is, “Well, what are we supposed to do?” I get told they don’t have time to accommodate him; they have a full class; and no one would learn if you had to spend equal time with each student. So he’s neglected.
